Christopher Esber Skirt, Bassike tank, Kobe Husk Heels, Alexander Wang Bag

With racing season in full swing and the Melbourne Cup looming, I have been inspired to dress like a lady.
I’ve even pulled out a pair of heels for this look- a rare occurrence for me.
Whilst I  have never been an avid race goer, I do adore the elegance and class associated with the event.
Some of my race wear tips:
  • Leave something to the imagination. Skirts should be knee length or below. Body con butt skimming dresses with stripper platforms is not a good look.
  • Balance. here I’ve got a high split skirt, so I have balanced this out with a loose boxy tank. Choose either legs or boobs- not both.
  • Choose heels that you can walk in or always carry a pair of  foldaway ballerines in your bag. There’s nothing worse than the trashy party girl look at the end of the day i.e. those girls that are carrying their heels and walking bare foot.
  • Hats/fascinators- I won’t touch this subject because I’m not well versed in this area. I have however noticed that boater hats and panamas seem to be trending this year. This is a great option as these hats can be worked into your everyday wardrobe.

Wearing one label head to toe

Wearing one label head to toe.

There are different schools of thought on this topic. (Ok i’ll be honest I’ve done absolutely no research and I’m just pulling this off the top of my head)

Unless sponsored by the brand this could indicate a complete lack of creativity.  A  marketer’s dream with too much cash.  A fashion tragic. On the other end of the spectrum there are strong arguments for wearing one brand. The aesthetic  and feel is cohesive and the clothes are specifically designed to match each other. This tends to make your life a little easier as it takes less thought to put together a respectable outfit.

So here I am wearing a bassike two piece.  These pieces are simple, streamlined and just work.  And if it gives you confidence, well that’s all that matters isn’t it?
