Jumping on that 70s bandwagon

Zara denim mini and camel coat, Asilio lace top, Acne Jensen boots, Alexander Wang Bag

70s fashion is currently in full swing with flares, tan suede, fringe, and bohemian peasants blouses invading stores.  If your clothes err more on the minimal side, 70s fashion may seem too much and too busy. However  there are ways to incorporate this trend subtly in you wardrobe.

Take for example my nod to this trend with a denim mini from Zara.  The a line, button down shape screams 70s, however it is actually a versatile piece that will happily sit along side my other wardrobe usuals. I’m thinking of teaming this skirt with simple tees and sneakers for no fuss summer wear, or slouchy sweaters for cooler days.

I’ve amped up the 70s vibe in this outfit by pairing it with a lace top (throwback to crochet) and a camel coat.

My other tips for injecting this trend into your wardrobe subtly is to focus on the accessories. Perhaps purchase a fringe bag that will dress up a simple outfit, or a pair of of killer platform mules.  Think of items that will able to mix and match with your current items  so you won’t be regretting these purchases later.

The perfect plaid

Plaid was major in the 90s. Who can forget the iconic plaid skirt suits worn by Cher and Dion in Clueless? Fast forward to the present and plaid has been resurrected in every colour and form possible, and can be worn be it Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn.  It’s a pattern that lends itself well to all seasons, but in particular I think it is beautiful for Winter.

Marc by Marc Jacobs plaid sweater, AG Jeans, Alexander Wang Bag, Acne Studios Rita Leather Jacket

The primary colours of this Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater is more classic than grunge (so will last the test of time) and I love how the colours really “pop” especially when pared with black.  The clever thing about this sweater is that it doubles as a cardigan adding to its versatility.  It’s an item that can be styled a number of ways but I think is just about perfect with a uniform of skinny jeans and a leather jacket.

Simple Sundays

Strong winds spoilt our plans to road trip down south for a cheeky surf. So instead of being up at the crack of dawn, we vegetated until midday, lolling around in laziness.  When we decided to venture out in the real world seeking caffeine, a casual outfit was a must.  What could epitomise casual more than blue jeans and white tee shirt?  The classic perennial has had an upgrade thanks to ripped jeans and accessories du jour – a plaid shirt tied around the hips and cross body bag. Albeit ubiquitous, I’m still loving this look.

The only Wang acceptable to be seen in public

Whilst perusing the Alexander Wang collection in the menswear section of David Jones, Andrew came up behind me and matter of factly advised “I’m not wearing anything with the word “Wang” in it”. That’s ok, because I have no qualms with doing so. Ergo christmas present to myself in Alexander Wang Pelican cross body bag form purchased during the infamous black Friday sales from Saks Fifth Avenue.  I love the “winged” design, gold hardware and best of all functional lock and key!  (A key is hidden in the attachment- what criminal mind could penetrate this fortress of security?!?). A timeless piece that can be worn casually but also with a cocktail dress.

This bag will team beautifully with almost anything, but today I stacked on the leather, with a Rag & Bone leather cropped top and my trusty Willow laced corset shoes. A graphic print skirt breaks up the black  -it is summer after all (Shhhhh I know the skirt has black in it).
