EOD Scarlet Mary Jane: One pair of shoes- two ways

It’s rare to find a pair of shoes that ticks all the boxes- comfortable, stylish, trendy and versatile. But EOD have done it with their Scarlet Mary Jane – a beautiful design that is easily styled for a cocktail event or a casual look. They’re so comfy you’ll have no problems dancing the night away or exploring the streets.

There’s something about velvet that instantly adds a luxurious touch to any look, so these shoes are perfect for a night out. I have kept this look tonal pairing these shoes with a navy Dion Lee dress. The different textures of the dress and shoes add interest to this look.

For a streetstyle look, I have again played with texture and design. Raw hem blue jeans and an on trend check coat complement and highlight the beautiful navy velvet design.

I am obsessed!

Shirt and bustier by Subtle and Simple, Stella clutch by Xnihilo, pants by Christopher Esber , Overture Earring by Natasha Schweitzer

There are 2 new labels that I’ve recently discovered that I’m really excited about.

The first is Subtle and Simple, a contemporary label based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Their latest collection is replete with oversized, relaxed structures, like the kimono sleeves on this shirt. Whilst perfect on its own, the shirt also looks amazing cinched in with the label’s bustier (which also doubles as a corset). The raw hems, reminiscent of Marques Almideia, adds that fashion cool girl touch.

The second is Xnihilo an Australia label which designs luxury, modern bags. This clutch is perhaps the coolest evening bag – it’s practical (large enough for the essentials) and different- I love the pony hair wristlet and the gold chain.

Keep your eye on these labels- their minimal modern designs are on trend, edgy and effortlessly cool.

Flowers Across Sydney

It’s amazing what flowers can do-  they can express love, bring a smile to a person’s face, offer comfort during tough times.

Having a good florist handy for special occasions (or even everyday) is a must. For those that are time poor, Flowers Across Sydney is definitely a company you want in your address book.  They are a  family run online business who deliver premium flowers for any budget. Their prices are seriously reasonable compared to other florists in Sydney, they have a wide selection of bouquets, and they do same day delivery!

This business also has a big heart, initiating the GIVR program. Each month a selected charity is paired up with one of Flowers Across Sydney’s most popular arrangements, with a portion of each bouquet sold  donated to the selected charity.

For the month of March, 10% of each “Sweet Smiles Arrangement” sold will be donated to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation- a Children’s Charity that purchases essential medical equipment used in Pediatric Wards, Neonatal Units, Maternity and Emergency Departments in hospitals nationwide. For more information click here.

Keep this local, socially responsible business in mind next time you need to buy a bunch of flowers. Help  spread joy to your loved ones and also give back to an important cause at the same time!

AG Jeans- Statement Denim

AG Jeans Phoebe in 19 Year SplinterThe Claire Shirt by AG, Attico Mules, APC Half Moon Bag

This season a pair of statement jeans is a key style update for any wardrobe.

AG have nailed this trend with the Phoebe in 19 Year Splinter. Whilst a year or 2 ago I lusted after the most distressed and ripped denim, these days I prefer my rips to whisper on the hem of my jeans. This pair features a high waist, an uneven hem and two toned denim- points that are interesting but not over the top. I’m after a cleaner, “more European” look, that can work casually but also be dressed up. Pairing these jeans with a striped shirt creates a chic, but timeless look.

I love the versatility of these pieces and am certain they will become wardrobe staples.

Key features to look out for when shopping for statement denim:

  • Length– I prefer a cropped length to show off my shoes. Pair your shoe of choice with fishnet tights/socks for a very “of the moment” look.
  • Hem– look for a step, raw, or uneven hem.
  • Wash– I’m loving blue washes at the moment- especially vintage blue (think Levis).
  • Extra detail– embroidery, patchwork or two toned denim. Choose one not all.

Happy shopping!

LPA skirt 59, MCQ Blazer, Stuart Weitzman Boots (similar here), Dezzal Shirt

I love the thrill of a good sale and often the best ones are the after Xmas Boxing Day Dales. Revolve (the sister site of FWRD) is having up to 50% off selected pieces.

Some of my strategies and tips when sale shopping:

  1. Plan for the next season- Although Australia is currently in the peak of summer, I like to use the opportunity to stock up on Autumn/Winter clothes which are on sale in the northern hemisphere.
  1. Play the currency exchange game. Brands which are based in the states will often be cheaper from the US compared to in store in Australia (even after the currency conversion). Case in point, denim brands such as Frame, Mother, 3 x 1.
  1. Shop smart- buy classic pieces but also buy pieces that add a punch to your wardrobe- such as this LPA embroided skirt.

Here is a selection of my favourite pieces on Revolve at the moment:

  1. Marjorelle Molly faux fur coat
  2. ATM Cashmere Sweater
  3. Mother Hustler Fray Jeans
  4. LPA Jacket 58
  5. 3 x 1 W3 Straight crop in camden
  6. Mother Zip ankle fray
  7. J Brand Selena mid rise crop
  8. Charli Cheshire sweater
  9. Charli Chance sweater
  10. T by Alexander Wang deep v neck pullover
  11. Rag and Bone cora cardigan
  12. Lovers +Friends James Denim Jacket
  13. Rag and B0ne shelby boot

EOD Urban Sliders, Style Mafia Usha pants, Anna Quan Shirt, Dylan Kain LSC Bag

Slides are the definitely the shoe of the moment-something which I’m pretty happy about. They’re super comfortable (just slip on and go!) but also extremely versatile to style.Because they’re like a half loafer, they’re refined enough to wear with more polished outfits but also work brilliantly with jeans.

And I’ve found the perfect pair by EOD with their urban slider. I love the urban slider’s sleek minimal design and cool zipper detail. My favourite shoe of the moment that comes in both white and black– what could be more perfect?

LPA Skirt, APC Bag, Acne Studios mules (similar here) , Anna Quan shirt

I am an avid online shopper and dare say prefer it to actual shopping.

You can access brands that you cannot find in store in Australia, don’t have to battle crowds and for someone that is time poor, the convenience is really hard to beat.

When I online shop, I’m also a lot less likely to make impulse purchases which I regret as I tend to stick to a specific considered wishlist. Which is why I’m so excited that one of my favourite sites, FWRD by Elyse Walker is offering up to 25% off their entire site for Australian customers for 3 days between 13 -15 December (see further details of FWRD’s Holiday Sale at the end of this post).

FWRD has an amazing range of designers from premium labels such as Saint Laurent, Chloe and Givenchy, to cool up coming labels. Because they stock the most coveted pieces, it’s the perfect opportunity to snap up those items which don’t normally go on sale.

One of the coolest new labels stocked at Forward is LPA, created by former Reformation designer Pia Arrobio. LPA’s designs exude elements of rock and roll, elevated cool, bohemian chic and general awesomeness.

Blame it on Gucci, but embroidery is back with a vengeance. Needlepoint is gracing everything from shoes, denim, clothing, and accessories- nothing is safe.

While some may hate this trend, seeing it as unnecessary embellishment, I’ve embraced embroidery as a way to add colour and inject some fun into my otherwise monochrome wardrobe. I’m executing this trend with a leather skirt by LPA the Label– the combination of leather, embroidery and studs is instantly cool and eliminates any possibility of the embroidery being viewed as “grandma-esque”.  I’ve paired this skirt with a classic white shirt with a twist- the super long sleeves are another subtle point of interest which compliments the statement skirt.

Acne mules and my APC half moon bag, complete the outfit.

To help take advantage of FWRD’s holiday sale, I’ve curated my list of essential investment pieces for your wardrobe.

Dezzal- the online site you need to know about

CLV Matiere pants, GaoGuo top, Acne heels, APC bag

Anybody that knows my style will know my love for flares.

Cropped flares have become a wardobe staple for me. However finding the perfect pair of full length flares has been an elusive search for me. Until now.

I found these flare pants on Dezzal, an online site that stocks an enormous range of mostly Asian designers. What I love about Asian designers is that they always have a knack for creating interesting, unique and on trend designs.

These flare pants are by CLV matiere. The pants skim the leg, creating the illusion of length, and the slit at the front makes them extra cool.

My shirt is by GaoGuo, a designer also stocked by Dezzal. I love the oversized, relaxed shape and the interesting cut outs on the sleeves.

Paired together, these items are effortlessly chic.

Nomaterra – fragrances inspired by travel

Smell is one of the most powerful sensory triggers for memories and emotions. NYC based perfume house, Nomaterra, uses olfactory memory as its foundation and creates scents inspired by a specific location.

I was lucky enough to be gifted with a scent of my choice from Nomaterra. I settled on Atlantic White Cedar, a scent which is inspired by the East Hampton, Mantauk area.

img_3547

The scent is complex and certainly not one dimensionsal. The top notes are fresh with hints of citrus and florals. The scent gradually warms up thanks to the woody, earthy notes, creating an elegant fragrance. As this is a unisex scent, it may not be for those people who prefer a more feminine scent.

img_3508

However for those who love feminine scents, I can highly recommend Nomaterra’s Cape Cod Wild Beach Rose, a sample of which was included in my package. The rose is not cloying or strong, but fresh, light as it is combined with citrus and salt. This scent was a finalist in the 2016 Art and Olfaction awards and I can certainly see why. I actually think this might be my favourite scent!

img_3546

Nomaterra are kindly offering my readers 15% off their fragrances every time you make a purchase using the code Marilee15  (code is valid for 3 months). Check out their site and take their scent quiz to find the perfect scent for you!

Happy shopping!
